Welcome Week

Welcome Week is the first week  where first year students are welcomed into the community at St. Thomas University. Organized by the Students’ Union through our Welcome Week Chair,  works in partnership with Residence Life and the University Administration to plan this a week of exciting events. Welcome Week is a week full of activities that are both fun and informative. Sometimes they’re more fun than informative, but that’s alright too.

Shinerama is also a part of the Welcome Week. It is Canada’s largest postsecondary fundraiser. Shinerama is part of Cystic Fibrosis Canada, which is an organization that has been raising funds for the fight against cystic fibrosis since 1960 and has contributed $150 million to leading research and care. As a result, Canada has one of the world’s highest survival rates for people with Cystic Fibrosis.

Hello, My name is Morgan. I am in my fourth and final year here at STU and I am double majoring in Criminology and Sociology with a minor in Political Science. As excited I am for the new things that fourth year will bring, I am very excited to bring a great Welcome Week to the incoming class of 2021, and becoming more involved with STU throughout the next year.

Hey STUdents! My name is Victoria Da Silva and I am going into my 4th year of a double major in Gerontology and Psychology.  This summer I have been given the honour of leading STU's Shinerama campaign!

As Shinerama Coordinator, I am responsible for planning summer and winter fundraisers as well as our annual Shine Day, which will be held on Tuesday, September 5th! Our goal is to raise not only funds but also awareness for the most common fatal genetic disease, Cystic Fibrosis. This disease targets children and young adultsand primarily affects their lungs and digestive systems, which will eventually lead to death in the majority of people with CF.

That said, it is our exciting job to fight this disease, which currently has no cure, so that people living with CF can live happy and healthier lives! I am so excited to meet you all and have you join myself and the rest of our St. Thomas Crew on Shine Day, it'll be lots of fun so mark your calendars!
