Passing of fourth-year student

Fredericton, NB - The St. Thomas University Students’ Union is saddened to hear of the passing of one of our own fourth-year students. At this time, the name of the student is unable to be publicized until there is confirmation the family has been notified. However, we do acknowledge that many students may be aware of the individual’s identity.

The university has put together a number of supports for students that may need them during this time:

  • Drop-in space will be available in the Student Lounge in Sir James Dunn Hall for gatherings on Friday, Saturday, and Monday from 12:00pm until 4:00pm - following COVID-19 protocols.

  • For those outside Fredericton, an online Zoom session has been organized for Saturday at 12:00pm (ADT) at https://zoom.us/j/99759184022?pwd=WUpzWTArYjRic0tyMm5VSXk4WnFuZz09

  • The Chapel in Holy Cross House will be open today from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and from 7:00pm to 9:00pm for private prayer, with Campus Ministry staff available to talk. Campus Ministry staff are also available to talk by appointment, please contact vivienz@stu.ca.

Additionally, if students are in need of access to resources or supports not mentioned in the list above, please contact Students’ Union President Sarah Kohut at su_president@stu.ca. The priority of the Students’ Union is to support students, especially during difficult times like these.

Our condolences go out to the family and our St. Thomas community during this time. We understand that classmates and friends are grieving, and we encourage students to take advantage of the university and the Students’ Union’s resources. St. Thomas University is a tight-knit and close community, and during these times it is crucial to come together, lean on each other for support, and prioritize your mental health and wellbeing.
