Philippe Ferland

President: su_president@stu.ca

My name is Philippe Ferland and I’m your STUSU President. I am born in Chilliwack, B.C., but spent the majority of my life moving all around Canada and the United States. Currently I’m finishing up school by going into my fifth year and will have an honours in Great Books, and a double major in psychology and political science. In my free time, I like to play videos, work out at the gym, and cook.

As your Students’ Union President, I do the best I can to help students and am determined to achieve as many results there as possible. While a lot of my work is external or deals with the administration, I’m super approachable and always interested in hearing what you have to say. Whether it’s in JDH, class, the grocery store, Klub Krome, or a funeral, just say “hi!” and feel free to tell me about your general experience here at STU.  I will always enthusiastically respond to you and do everything I can to help!

Matt LeBlanc

Vice-President Administration: su_vpadmin@stu.ca

I want to extend a warm welcome to all the new faces joining our cozy campus and to those returning for this 2017-18 academic year. As Vice-President Administration I am tasked with maintaining and improving students’ health & dental coverage, managing the Union budget, and overseeing clubs and societies. I am always willing to sit down with anyone and discuss issues specific to them, approaches or services we can bring to STU, or general ways we can improve the lives of students. It is our responsibility as STUSU executives to do all that we can to create the most welcoming and comforting campus environment attainable.

St. Thomas University is a tight-knit community of passionate, engaged, and empathetic leaders. It is a place where you will be pushed to your intellectual limits, provoked to ask the “why” questions, and invited to discover how you ought to live your life. It is a place where lifelong friendships will begin and where cherished memories will occur. It is, perhaps inevitably, a place that will soon become home.

Never hesitate to reach out to me at my email above.

Brianna Workman

Vice-President Education: su_vped@stu.ca

Hey STUdents! My name is Brianna Workman and I am unbelievably excited to be your Vice-President Education on the STUSU this year. I am a third year student majoring in Communications and Public Policy and Political Science. I am from Kemptville, Ontario. I hope that STU becomes your second home very quickly, just like it did for me a few years ago when I first came to here.

A big part of my job as Vice-President Education is working with the two advocacy organizations we are a part of –the New Brunswick Student Alliance (NBSA) and the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA). Both of these organizations are made up of other member student unions (like us) on both a provincial and federal level. Together, as a team of student leaders, and with the help of NBSA and CASA staff, we advocate for students with the goal of influencing policy change within the provincial and federal government.

If you ever see me on campus, I would love to get to know you and chat. Here’s to another great year at STU!

Jimy Beltran

Vice-President Student Life: su_vpsl@stu.ca

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all new and returning students. I hope that you had a fantastic summer and are charged with new energy and enthusiasm for this academic year! As a Vice-President Student Life, my job is to improve your university experience by planning activities and advocating for better student services. So, if you are having problems with the services offered by the school such as food and transportation, don’t hesitate to contact me so we can sit down and try to devise a solution.

St. Thomas is a small and active community. Therefore, I encourage you to participate – or continue to participate- in our campus activities, clubs, student government and sports. Your engagement is crucial to keeping the spirit of St. Thomas alive. I hope that in this new academic year you flourish both at a personal and an intellectual level. And remember that the STUSU is always here to support you.

Hi,

My name is Tina Iannarilli and for the past 23 years I have had the pleasure of serving STUdents as General Manager of STU SU.  I know what you are thinking, she must have started when she was 12.  *wink *wink.  I joke, but I wasn’t much older than most students at that time.   I have been truly blessed to work as part of one of the best institutions on the planet in my humble opinion.

I have always loved the close-knit community that STU provides like a family really.  The opportunity to work with a team of student leaders that cares so much about fostering that family vibe and taking care of our own has been an amazing experience.  I won’t go on about everything our leaders do for you as they will toot their own horns I am sure in their own bios.

I will say to those of you new to STU, this is going to a great year and I am so excited to work alongside your STU SU Exec and Council for 2017/18.

If you ever find yourself wandering the halls of the SUB stop by and say Hi!  Room 31 is located in the armpit of the SUB and it gets lonely there so visitors are always welcome!

All the Best,

Tina
